The secret to making any image look like a grand vista is to give the viewer a frame of reference. Trees in the background or, as in this image you just made, the boat on the lake acts as a reference point that causes our minds to say “Wow! That’s one big lake!” Or something to that effect.
Now that you have taken the time to practice with creating large-scale vistas, it’s time to look into creating more sophisticated landscapes. Chapter 3 is going to cover using image maps to generate terrain shapes as well as control how content—plants, rocks, and objects—will be placed.
