6Ground-Water Models
Introduction
Modeling ground-water systems involves both water quantity (flow) and water quality considerations. Ground-water models incorporate mathematical representations of some or all of the following processes: movement of water and other fluids through saturated or unsaturated porous media or fractured rock; transport of water-soluble constituents; transformation of contaminants by chemical, biological, and physical processes; and heat transport and associated effects of temperature variations on ground-water flow and pollutant transport and fate.
