ETEGAMI
Etegami is a colorful Japanese folk art that pairs black ink with watercolors to depict a simple subject with a few thoughtful words. The word etegami means “picture letter” and is a wonderful way to create a postcard to send to someone special.
When I create etegami, I usually find my subject by looking around me. Maybe it’s my cat, or even my coffee cup, or the bright red geranium in my window. It could even be the spoon used to stir my coffee. For the etegami we will create together, I chose a cup full of colored pencils. For the written message, I chose “Sending you the rainbow,” but feel free to come up with any short phrase that you like. We will stick with the rainbow theme for now, but you can choose any colors ...
