Map Elements
Introduction
Map elements are the composite parts of a map in its entirety. Consensus on
denitions and categorization is somewhat rare when it comes to cartogra-
phy and mapmakers; however, largely the elements found in Figure3.1 have
traditionally been considered some of the core map elements.
As becomes obvious looking at Figure3.1, Web maps employ additional
elements that are not on this list, and some of the elements in Figure3.1
