One of the most important components of any distributed computing solution is a registry that can be used by components and services to advertise themselves and by clients to discover existing components and services they can access. All distributed object middleware solutions have some form of registry that serves this purpose. And, as the computer industry is beginning to realize, any viable web service solution will need a similar component in order to be of any utility.
