If you listen to the hype about Web services, you might get the impression that they can help us end war and solve world hunger. As with any breakthrough technology, its advocates get carried away and start painting glorious pictures of the way things could be.
Hype is a useful marketing tool. Suppose you come up with a new idea that has real potential. You go out and raise awareness. You evangelize this new technology as the next revolution in technology or business. If you market it well, you create a buzz. The next thing you know, you've got lots of people talking about it. New businesses start popping up. Money starts to flow. Suddenly you're on your way to endless riches.
