9.2  EVOLUTION OF THE CONCEPT

In the manufacturing world, relatively many of the components are standardized—in other words,

the interfaces are standardized. Cars, for example, have standard interfaces—steering assembly, brake

system, accelerator, clutch, etc. Similarly, there exist standard processes and tools for its regular mainte-

nance (servicing). Its components are also made of standard parts, as far as possible, for example, tires,
