Update process overview

The update process can basically be broken down into the following list of steps:

  1. Locate, download, and install (if required) the latest Update Installer.
  2. Read relevant supporting documentation.
  3. Locate and download product updates.
  4. Verify the current version of WAS using the versionInfo.sh command script.
  5. Ensure you have stopped all WebSphere (JAVA) processes.
  6. Create a backup.
  7. Apply updates.
  8. Verify the new version of WAS using the versionInfo.sh command script.
  9. Optionally, check WebSphere logs to ensure that there are no installation errors.

We will now step through the list above in detail to explain, with a demonstration, the process of upgrading install of the WAS1 trial from 7.0.0.0 to version 7.0.0.1.
