Introduction
We live in interesting times.
Bear in mind that the period of the Black Death was an interesting time, as was the Hundred Years War. Of course, the Italian Renaissance was also an interesting time, and so was the Golden Age of China.
What is clear is that we are in a period of historic change, as human society faces a transformative force unlike any other it has previously faced, a new technology that perhaps may more profoundly affect the course of human history than the invention of the wheel, agriculture, or the steam engine.
I speak, of course, of artificial intelligence (AI).
