CHAPTER 6Solutions: What Works for Boys?

 

AS A REPORTER, the only method I trust for determining what works for boys involves a lot of shoe leather. Here are three schools I located with the help of think tanks, school advocacy groups, and education foundations. The first, Frankford Elementary, is a traditional public school. The next is a single-sex New York City charter school. Charters are public schools with independent management. Finally, I profile a coed charter school in Washington, D.C., one of the highly regarded KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) schools. At the end of the chapter I will discuss what they have in common.
