Standards, Best Practice, and All Too Present Reality
We have frequently referred to the foundation quality management standard ISO 9001 now in version 2015, and also critiqued its downside and detractors—see Chapter 12, Role and effect of standards, plus, and minus.
The standard lays a foundation and base level benchmarks for quality world-wide and the story of why Dow Corning adopted it as the foundation of its quality processes1 is a classic example of its role.
