Now that we have gathered a great deal of information about your organization relevant to the Active Directory domain design, we need to take that information and put it to use. After a brief review of Active Directory domains and trees, we will look at some of the design decisions necessary to construct a sound domain topology.

Active Directory is a distributed system that is made up of a directory database, which includes a schema, transaction logs, and all the other necessities that come with a database, and a directory service. The directory service is the process (or processes) that makes use of the information stored in the directory database.
