Summary

This chapter looked at DirectX 5.0 and Windows 98 video. After a brief introduction to Windows 98 and multimedia, I took you through the entire DirectX 5.0 family. I then examined various video formats and explained video compression schemes. In a more practical vein, I showed you how to play video clips in Windows 98, examine video clip and playback properties, and improve video performance. From there, you learned about a few new Windows 98 video goodies: the Broadcast Architecture, WebTV for Windows, and the NetShow Player. I closed with a look at some video troubleshooting issues.
