Maintaining GPO Storage

Each Group Policy object has a related Group Policy container (GPC) and a related Group Policy template (GPT). The sections that follow discuss techniques for working with the GPC and GPT separately from the GPO itself.

Examining Group Policy Containers

The Group Policy container (GPC) for a GPO is:

  • Stored in the Active Directory database.

  • Replicated through normal Active Directory replication.

  • Used to store properties related to the GPO.

  • Identified with a globally unique identifier (GUID).
