WMI Functions
On a fundamental level, WMI fulfills three main roles:
It defines a standard model for describing components of computer systems.
It uses this model to describe components of the Windows 2000 operating system and a PC on which it runs.
It provides tools that allow programs to read these descriptions and interact with the components they describe without having to know anything about the way the component itself works.
As this book progresses, you will see that these three roles together make WMI a powerful, unified interface to virtually every aspect of a Windows 2000 computer.
