It is critical to carefully plan a new IPv4 network, because changing IP addresses after deployment is time consuming. This section guides you through the fundamentals of planning an IPv4 network.

Designing Your Internet Connection

Small organizations, or regional offices that can support only a single subnet, can use the architecture shown in Figure 1-8. This architecture assigns a single public IP address to the NAT gateway and assigns private IP addresses to all computers on the internal network. If a server must be accessible from the Internet, the NAT gateway can be configured with port forwarding.
