Server Core

With Windows Server 2008 you can install a low-overhead, high-security, minimal environment called a Server Core. The Server Core installation option installs only the subset of the binary files that are required by the supported server roles and leaves out the graphical interface. Administrators use a command prompt or scripting techniques for local administration of the server. Or they administer the Server Core installation using Microsoft Management Console (MMC) from another computer running Windows Server 2008 by selecting the Server Core computer as a remote computer to manage.
