Clean Service Shutdown

In Windows Server 2003, when you initiate a shutdown, the operating system gives applications 20 seconds in which to close themselves in an orderly fashion. If an application fails to close in that time, a message is displayed allowing you to force the application to close. A forced closure can result in data loss. Windows Server 2008 waits for applications as long as they keep signaling that they still need time to shut down properly.
