The Eight Rules of Security

When people think about security, they typically think of firewalls and antivirus software. After all, isn’t that what security vendors have told us is the way to secure our systems? Well, the vendors are wrong. Each year the Computer Security Institute (CSI) releases a security survey in conjunction with the FBI Computer Crime Unit on the impact of security on businesses and the trends that they continue to see. The most recent study (www.gocsi.com) showed that 98 percent of the businesses that reported security breaches in the past year had firewalls in place; 97 percent stated that they also had antivirus software deployed.
