Recovering a System

This section discusses how to troubleshoot and recover a system that does not start. If you have a disaster recovery plan (as described in Chapter 33), follow those procedures. Use this section to supplement the plan as necessary, and make notes as you go on how you can update the plan.

The recovery steps outlined in this section proceed from modest measures to desperate ones. In any recovery procedure, adopt a minimalist approach. Start with the least invasive steps and move on to more drastic ones only if necessary.
