Installation Prerequisites

Before you can install Hyper-V, you must complete some prerequisite tasks that help streamline the process. Windows Server 2008 with the Hyper-V role or Microsoft Hyper-V Server 2008 requires the correct hardware and BIOS settings to ensure that the hypervisor will start. Hyper-V requires server hardware that supports 64-bit processor instructions and hardware-assisted virtualization technology in the processor of the server. This is available in processors with Intel Virtualization Technology (Intel VT) or AMD Virtualization (AMD-V) technology.
