Controlling Virtual Machine State

Table 11-5 contains a list of options that Hyper-V provides to control and change the state of a virtual machine. In all cases, available options depend on the existing virtual machine state. It is critical to understand virtual machine state and transition paths in order to prevent corruption, data loss, or service interruptions caused by incompatibilities with applications or services running in the virtual machine. In order to change the state of a virtual machine, right-click the virtual machine in the Hyper-V Manager MMC and then select the appropriate action.
