To configure a Windows Server with multiple NICs, perform the following process:

  • Only one Default Gateway: In your NIC properties, you need to make sure that you only have a Default Gateway identified on one of your NICs. This is the most common mistake that I find in the field. If you have two NICs, it would seem logical that you would simply populate their IP address settings just like you would with any server or computer, right? Nope. The purpose of a Default Gateway is to be the fallback or the route of last resort.
