Installing WSS 3.0 on a Stand-Alone (Single) Server
WSS 3.0 can be quickly and easily installed on a single server computer so that you and your organization can start to publish SharePoint sites in a very short amount of time. Before you start installing SharePoint on a single server, you should know that a direct upgrade from a stand-alone installation to a farm installation is not available. But if upgrading is never going to be on your horizon and will never become an issue, then the installation process can be quite painless.
