Defining the Proper Content Types and Metadata for Your Organization

Content type functionality in WSS 3.0, as discussed in the section titled SharePoint Content Types in Chapter 2, offers your organization a robust solution to capturing metadata. Content types are a collection of settings you can apply to a specific category of content. Content types are also regularly referred to as metadata. You can also apply retention schedules to content types, which allows you to keep the content you are required to retain and to remove or eliminate the content you no longer need within your organization.
