Chapter 7: Navigating the Web with Internet Explorer 7
3. Choose one of the following options and then click Yes to save your settings:
Use this webpage as your only home page
Removes any previously configured home pages and sets the currently
selected web page as your only home page.
Add this webpage to your home page tabs
Adds the currently selected web page to the bottom of your home page tabs.
You can only have up to eight home pages. If you try to add a new
home page and already have eight home pages, you’ll see a warning
prompt stating that you’ve already selected the maximum number of
supported home pages. To add the web page as a home page, you’ll
need to remove at least one of the other home pages.
Use current tab set as your home page
Configures all the web pages you’ve opened in the current tab set as your
home pages. Internet Explorer adds the pages in the order in which the tabs
are open currently. You will not be able to change the order later.
Being able to add the current tab set as your home page can save you a
great deal of time. To use this feature to your best advantage, open in
separate tabs up to eight web pages that you visit frequently. To get
the pages in the desired order, click and drag the related tabs into the
desired positions. Once you have all the pages open and in the desired
order, select Add or Change Home Page and then choose “Use cur-
rent tab set as your home page.”
You can remove home pages by completing the following steps:
1. In Internet Explorer 7, click the Home Options button to the right of the Home
button.
2. On the shortcut menu, click Remove. This displays a new shortcut menu.
3. Click a page to remove it or click Remove All to remove all pages.
4. When prompted to confirm the action, click Yes.
Printing Web Pages Without Wasting Paper
Another of my favorite new features in Internet Explorer 7 is the new printing
engine. Unlike earlier releases of Internet Explorer, the default printing option is to
shrink the selected page to fit your default printer settings—this feature alone is
extremely helpful. If you select the Print Options button to the right of the Print but-
ton and then select Print Preview, you can customize the print layout using the dia-
log box shown in Figure 7-12.

In Print Preview, four Adjust Margin guides are provided—one each
for the left, right, top, and bottom margins. Not only do these guides
show you visually where the margins are located, but you can also
click a margin guide and drag left/right or up/down.
Table 7-1 summarizes the Print Preview options by listing the buttons on the top and
bottom rows from left to right. The most important new option is the Change Print
Size button, which lets you set the print size as a percentage of the actual page size.
You can click the Change Print Size button and then select Shrink to Fit to ensure
that a page prints properly.
