The prevalence of mobile devices that pass freely between public and corporate networks and a general lack of security awareness among many mobile users have made smart devices a preferred target for cybercriminals. Not only do many of the common PC exploits also work on these devices but cybercriminals now use some traditional PC exploits to leapfrog onto mobile clients, which are considered higher-value targets. To combat these threats, IT teams must expand their efforts to include new mobile-based attacks, perform regular scanning of the corporate network, and increase their emphasis on user security training and awareness.
