Fern Field Brooks’ career in the entertainment industry began in 1975 on Norman Lear’s television series Maude, starring Bea Arthur. Most recently, she served as co-executive producer on Monk, starring Tony Shalhoub. She was nominated for an Oscar for her short film A Different Approach, which she made to encourage the employment and accurate portrayal of persons with disabilities. During the course of her forty-year career, she received a Distinguished Service Award from President Ronald Reagan, won a primetime Emmy, two George Foster Peabody awards, two Humanitas awards, and the NAACP Image award.
