Appendix A

Converting from MYOB to Xero

A number of different versions of MYOB AccountRight are available. The desktop versions all enable lists of data to be exported, either by the export function, or via the reporting function. The version you have may look slightly different — but in general they have the same functionality. I’ve used AccountRight version 19 through this appendix but, for the sake of simplicity, I simply refer to the software as MYOB.

In this appendix, I provide steps to help you export required data from MYOB to set up your Xero file.

Note: Before exporting data and preparing it for import, you first need to create a file directory for the different file versions of the data. Refer to Chapter 3 for more on this, and for an example naming system for this file directory. I’ve continued using the same example naming system from Chapter 3 through this appendix.

Exporting Data

Now’s the time to get into your existing system and get your hands dirty, extracting all required data. Open your existing system and start exporting the data following the steps outlined in this section.

geni003.ai When files are exported from MYOB via the Export or Report function, always opt for the file format to be comma-separated and add the extension CSV (*.csv) to the end of the file name so the file is saved as a CSV file. (Refer to Chapter 3 for more on CSV files.)
