A multi-platform object-oriented programming language developed by Sun. Originally developed in 1992, it was intended to be embedded in consumer devices. In 1995 it was enhanced, and aimed at Internet applications. Semi-compiled Java code modules, or applets, are accessed by a Web browser, interpreted or compiled (just-in-time compilation), then executed on the local machine. Platform independence includes machine and operating system neutral interfaces, including a graphical user interface. Contact http://Java.sun.com and comp.lang.java newsgroup.
