Turning Enemies into Friends

It’s 2:00 p.m. Emily has just finished getting the sustainability conference approved at lunch. Now back at her office, she picks up the phone and dials a sequence of numbers from long-term memory. She joins a conference call with her team just in time. Without the need to find the number consciously, Emily conserves her attention and uses a moment to focus on the present, to reflect, and to activate her director. She notices it takes longer to bring an idea onto her stage than it did several hours ago. She tries to find a word for her state of mind and comes up with frazzled. Naming her state calms her down.
