Here’s a cheap and simple tip to help you avoid temptation. All you need is an elastic band. Wind it round your packet of cigarettes, sweets, chocolate, biscuits or crisps – whatever your demon is. Do this each time you give into temptation. Then next time you crave the thing you know you should be avoiding, to get at it you have to go through the ceremony of unwinding the elastic band first. This gives you time to think, and makes it more of a conscious decision to indulge in your bad habit. Eventually you won’t remove that elastic band. Then you’ve cracked it.
