Chapter 5
Adding a Splash of Color
After you complete a sculpt, your next step is to bring some color to your creation. ZBrush was the first application to allow you to paint directly onto the model while having complete interaction with that mesh. It was the first time you could rotate, zoom, and move a mesh around and then apply color. ZBrush calls this polypainting: painting directly onto the polygons, or, in ZBrush, the vertex points.
This chapter covers the tools created because of the polypaint capability. Polypainting is the quickest way to paint directly onto a model, but many other tools, such as Spotlight and ZAppLink, give us more freedom. So let’s get our tablet pens and remember those days of applying paint to canvas.
