Transceiver Requirements

This chapter presents the knowledge essential to understanding and comparing the performance of different transceivers. The modulations and spreading methods available in IEEE 802.15.4 are also reviewed. In a wireless sensor network (WSN), the sensor output is an analog signal and needs to be converted to digital. The basics of analog–to-digital converters (ADCs) and their performance metrics are provided. A transceiver requires a crystal oscillator to generate a precise clock; therefore, crystal oscillator operation and analysis are covered in this chapter.
