ZigBee Coexistence

Operation in a license-free frequency band brings the challenge of sharing the same frequency band with several other wireless networks. In most cases, there is no collaboration between these independent wireless networks, and operation of one network may adversely affect the others. This chapter reviews some of the methods used in IEEE 802.15.4 wireless networking that increase the robustness of the network against interference. Basic properties of IEEE 802.11b/g, Bluetooth, cordless phones, and microwave ovens are reviewed as examples of potential sources of interference to an IEEE 802.15.4 network.
