This course explains how to contribute at a higher level, how to redefine your role, how to develop your character, and how to act with authenticity. This will allow you to demonstrate new leadership qualities while you’re in your current job and also help you design a plan for your future career.

About your instructor

  • Pamela Rucker is a featured speaker at CIO events in the United States, Canada and Europe. She has used her practical experience to provide executive education for numerous Fortune 500 firms, and has coached leaders at some of the world’s most recognizable brands and leading academic institutions, including Microsoft, NBC, Kaiser, Federal Reserve, Cisco and Chevron. Pamela chairs the Technology Advisory Council for St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, serves as a CIO Advisor for the CIO Executive Council, and teaches a professional development course at Harvard University entitled Leading Through Digital Disruption. She runs an advisory services practice that focuses on executive leadership, digital leadership, and corporate reinvention. Pamela has a bachelor’s degree from the University of Richmond, a master’s degree from Harvard University, and has completed professional programs at Rice and Columbia.

Lecture: Developing a Reputation for Leadership (20 minutes)

  • Learn how to create value, propose new ideas, make new contributions, and connect people in a way that demonstrates foresight and agility. Participants learn how to take advantage of opportunities by redefining their role, demonstrating presence and developing new relationships.
  • Exercise and group Q&A: Reputational Leadership (10 minutes)
  • This exercise allows participants to create their own reputational leadership plan, drawing on themes from the previous section to create a practical plan of action.

Lecture: Becoming a BRAVE Leader (15 minutes)

  • We’ll examine the BRAVE model, which focuses on your behaviors, relationships, attitude, values and environment, and highlight ways that you can choose the right components in various situations so that they support and promote your leadership skill.
  • Exercise and group Q&A: BRAVE Leadership (10 minutes)
  • Assess your own BRAVE leadership qualities and prioritize the areas you want to focus on during the next year.

Lecture: The Importance of Character (15 minutes)

  • We’ll explore the connection between acting like a leader and creating a new way of thinking. You’ll learn the importance of communication and experiences, and how they impact what every lea
  • Exercise and group Q&A: Character Exercise (10 minutes)
  • Identify situations where you have demonstrated the qualities that are a core part of character, and highlights ways to use them when telling stories.

Lecture: Understanding Motivations (5 minutes)

  • We’ll introduce a character model and explains the importance of motivation as it relates to emotions. You’ll learn the difference between relying on intuition vs analysis when making character decisions, and how that impacts the results you deliver at work.

Lecture: Developing Authenticity – A Head to Heart Connection (10 minutes)

  • Learn how to integrate the head and heart in order to demonstrate authentic leadership. You’ll understand the ways that authenticity effects image and makes it either an asset or a liability. You’ll also discuss the Path of Life exercise, and how your journey as a person impacts your personal leadership story.
  • Exercise and group Q&A: Understanding Your Head-to-Heart Connections (10 minutes)
  • Assess which elements of your head-to-heart connection need to be addressed and select a deliberate area of focus for the next 90 days.

Lecture: Conclusion, Call to Action & Additional Questions (10 minutes)

  • You’ll identify what you will start, stop and continue doing in order to be successful, and create a plan for your Day 1 leadership experience.
