About your instructor

  • Sander van Vugt started working with Linux in 1992. He wrote his first book about Linux in 1999, and up to date has completed 62 different books on Linux related topics, including the best selling RHCSA/RHCE 7 Cert Guide. Sander is the author of over 20 Linux related video courses. He also works as a Linux instructor, teaching on-site and on-line classes for customers around the world.


The timeframes are only estimates and may vary according to how the class is progressing

Segment 1: Installing and Managing RHEL 8 (35 minutes)

  • Students will learn how to work with the Cockpit web administration interface

Segment 2: Package Management: Working with Application Streams (25 minutes)

  • Students will learn how to work with application streams to manage software packages
  • 10 minute break

Segment 3: Using New Storage Features (35 minutes)

  • Students will learn how to work with new storage features, including the Stratis Volume Manager and VDO

Segment 4: Working with Networking in RHEL 8 (15 minutes)

  • Students will learn how to work with Networking in RHEL 8, which includes a current status overview of the network stack, as well as IPVLAN
  • 10 minute break

Segment 5: Using RHEL 8 Security Features (50 minutes)

  • Students will learn how to apply RHEL 8 security features, including NFTables, Security Policies and Policy Based Decryption
  • 10 minute break

Segment 6: Using Containers in RHEL 8 (50 minutes)

  • Students will learn how to use containers in a RHEL 8 environment, running containers directly on top of the RHEL 8 kernel and without using a container engine. Students will learn about new container management utilities, including podman, composer, buildah, scopeo and runc.
