Richard Tibbetts is a Visiting Scientist at the MIT Probabilistic Computing Group and the CEO of Empirical Systems. He has been involved in complex event processing since its origins in academia. A founder of StreamBase, Richard was responsible for the design and implementation of the EventFlow programming language and the high-performance, low-latency runtime platform and guided implementations in trading, gaming, and compliance. Joining TIBCO after their acquisition of StreamBase, he led integration of the event-processing portfolio, including applications in agriculture, energy, retail, and transportation. Richard's interests include programming languages, human-computer interaction, software safety, distributed architectures, and streaming analytics.
