Rachel Thomas

Rachel Thomas is co-founder of fast.ai and helped create the free Practical Deep Learning for Coders MOOC, which 50,000 students have started. She is a researcher-in-residence at USF Data Institute, where she teaches numerical linear algebra. Rachel has a PhD in mathematics from Duke and has previously worked as a quant in energy trading, a data scientist/engineer at Uber, and a senior instructor at Hackbright. She is a popular writer on data science and diversity in tech, and her writing has made the front page of Hacker News (4x); front page of Medium (2x); included in newsletters by O’Reilly, Fortune, CrunchBase, & MatterMark; and translated into Spanish, Portuguese, & Chinese.
