David Steier

David Steier is a Director at Deloitte Consulting, where he co-leads solution development at the Deloitte Analytics Institute. Prior to joining Deloitte, David was director of the Center for Advanced Research at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). Prior to working at PwC, David was a managing director at Scient, an e-business services consultancy. David has led multiple projects for clients in health care, detection of accounting irregularities, and knowledge management. David's teams also deployed tools in areas such as document analysis, expertise location, sales recommendations, financial information extraction, benchmarking, and news filtering. David's research interests are in applications of artificial intelligence, especially data mining and machine learning. He has authored and co-authored numerous publications and presentations, including two books, a dozen journal papers, and a dozen conference papers and workshop presentations, such as at IEEE ICDM and ACM KDD, the leading international conferences on data mining. David holds a PhD in computer science from Carnegie Mellon (where he served on the research faculty for three years after getting his doctorate) and a BS in computer science from Purdue University.
