Bio

Alex is a Classicist by training and currently works as a high school Latin teacher. He completed his PhD with a dissertation on philosophical rhetoric in Plato’s Republic. He has over ten years’ programming experience, primarily in Python, Java, and JavaScript. Alex’s technical work has focused mainly on Humanities-related research and teaching projects. He has an interest in digital texts and editing and has worked extensively with LaTeX, XML, XSLT, and related technologies. He was associate editor for the Archimedes Palimpsest Project, where he directed the preparation of the Greek transcriptions for the printed publication (Cambridge, 2011) as well as the online digital dataset. When it comes to teaching, Alex is very interested in language acquisition and pedagogy. He’s always looking for opportunities to practice his spoken Latin. Alex lives in Chicago with his wife and daughter.
