Description:

Rescheduled - pending a new date.

Over the last decade, technology adoption has exploded worldwide. Corporations have struggled to keep pace. Motivated by usability and revenue creation, they often ignore the proactive design and security required for long-term stability. With the increase of breaking-news hacks, record-breaking data leaks, and ransomware attacks, it's our job to not only scrape by with default installs but also secure our data and assets to the best of our abilities. However, there will always be cases where we have to deal with environments that are metaphorical train wrecks, that have so many fires that we don't know where to even start. Drawing on topics from their Defensive Security Handbook, Amanda Berlin and Lee Brotherston offer an overview of defensive best practices and advice for securing various networks in an organization's infrastructure.

About Amanda Berlin

Amanda Berlin is an information security architect for an Ohio-based professional services company. Amanda has spent over a decade in different areas of the technology and sectors, providing infrastructure support, triage, and design; previous projects have included creating a secure method of Payment Card Industry (PCI) and Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) compliance and building a comprehensive phishing and awards-based user education program. She is an avid volunteer and has presented at a large number of conventions, meetings, and industry events, including DerbyCon, CircleCityCon, GrrCon, and DEFCON. Amanda is currently coauthoring a book on Blue Team best practices and is part of a team working on an open sourced phishing and user-education software package. While she doesn't have the credentials or notoriety that others might, she makes up for it with her wit, sense of humor, and knack for quickly catching on to new technologies.
