Bio

John is a developer and data scientist, with a strong interest in health technology, public health, and policy issues. After receiving his Masters in Public Health in Epidemiology from the University of Illinois, he went on to oversee the safety surveillance systems for the largest hospital system in Minnesota, run the HIV testing program for an at-risk youth center, and serve as the epidemiologist for the largest HIV clinic in Minnesota. He has served as a public official at the State, County, and Municipal levels, including as Chair of the Public Health Advisory Committee for the City of Minneapolis.

His research interests primarily revolve around finding medical utility in non-traditional health data, the application and representation of health data, and general data mining and machine learning techniques. This research has been presented in a number of venues, including at the American Public Health Association, American Medical Informatics Association, and Health 2.0. Currently, he works as a Data Scientist at Practice Fusion in San Francisco, and is pursuing a Ph.D. in Health Informatics, Computer Science, and Statistics from the University of Minnesota.
