This project is a light-based beatbox in wand form, used with a light-sensor-equipped synth to create cool audio effects.

In this project, you’ll make an optical screwdriver that flashes an LED at a light sensor, which then tells the synth what beats to play depending on the input it receives. You can modify the rate and length of beats, creating complicated synthesized music.

I’ll show you how to make three different variants of the screwdriver, ranging from simple to advanced. You don’t have to make all three; just choose the level of awesomeness you’re prepared to handle.
