Contrary to what you may hear, brick-and-mortar stores are not disappearing. According to the US Census Bureau, as of June 30, 2015, 92.8 percent of all retail sales in the US occur in a store and 7.2 percent are online. The percent of online sales is rising, however.
This means that digital designers in retail can’t stop designing websites and apps for shoppers. Even though the vast majority of sales are occurring in stores, an increasing number of those in-store sales are “digical” sales: that is, they combine the digital and the physical.
