Working with wood

A significant part of this illustration is made of wood. We can use the piece of wood we created in Chapter 1, page 24 – it will work well darkened and contrasted to give a mahogany-like effect.

Shading is easily added using the Dodge and Burn tools: if we hold the Shift key as we drag with the tool, we constrain its movement to purely horizontal.

The skirting board can easily be duplicated and reused to make the dado rail – the strip of molded wood that creates a physical border between the painted wall above and the anaglypta wallpaper below.
