As citizens of the modern world, our lives are innitely more complex than
those of our forbears. Amid the obligations and distractions that clutter our
day-to-day existences, however, remain objects that anchor our days by
steadfastly maintaining an unchanging functionality: tables, for instance,
or clocks.
Despite—or perhaps because of—these objects’ limited functional
evolution,
current incarnations of classic typologies tend to differentiate themselves
through a distinctly contemporary attention to form and an honest represen-
tation of materials new and old. And further distinguishing today’s objects is
the necessary, contemporary tendency to consider a product’s environmental
impact and long-term sustainability—regardless of its role in our daily lives.
