When you can skip that meeting
How ‘face-time’ can help – and hinder – meetings.
What you need to know
A team of researchers from INSEAD and the Kellogg School of Management at Northwestern University conducted two meta-analyses to find the impact of ‘being present’ (i.e., face-to-face communication – either in person or via video conferencing) on the quality of outcomes for meetings, both in terms of decision-making and negotiations. Unexpectedly, and counter to conventional wisdom, it seems face-to-face meetings may not always be best.
