Invest in People
Two important words in the English language can determine if you are going to grow people and give them the opportunity to maximize their individual abilities, or take the traditional path of just getting by and tolerating less than spectacular performance: cost and invest.
Effective today, be careful about how you label what you spend on growing people. When you discuss anything regarding education, training, and resources for your people be clear to let them know you are making an investment in them. Review your individual 3 × 5 cards on each employee (and what motivates them). Write down how you will invest in them during the coming year.
