I use a couple of learning platforms, but I'm on O'Reilly more than anybody else. When you're there, you start learning. I'm never disappointed.I'm always learning. So when I got on to O'Reilly, I was like a kid in a candy store. There are playlists. There are answers. There's on-demand training. It's worth its weight in gold, in terms of what it allows me to do.

At the time of this interview, Douglas Kent Hall (1938–2008) had been combining his talents in photography and writing to depict the beauty, spirit, and mystery of the American West for over 20 years. He is best known for his photographs of the people who live there: cowboys, Native Americans, and Hispanic-Americans.
Hall was born and raised in eastern Utah in a community bordering Ute Indian land. He was educated at Brigham Young University and the Writer’s Workshop at the University of Iowa, where he studied creative writing and served as special assistant to Paul Engel. After graduation, he taught creative writing at the University of Portland in Oregon.
